Jill Stein Announces 2024 Presidential Run on Green Party Ticket
73-Year-Old Physician and Activist Enters Race
Seeks Alternative to Two-Party System
Jill Ellen Stein, an American physician and political activist, has announced her candidacy for president of the United States in 2024 on the Green Party ticket.
Stein, who has previously run for president in the 2012 and 2016 elections, announced her bid on November 9, 2023. She stated that she was running "to offer a choice for the people outside the failed two-party system."
Stein, who is 73, is a native of Massachusetts and a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She has a long history of activism, having worked on issues such as environmental protection, healthcare reform, and social justice.
Stein becomes the latest in a field of mostly leftist candidates who are seeking the Green Party's presidential nomination. The Green Party is a minor political party in the United States that promotes environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice, and grassroots democracy.
