Kate Douglass Wins First Olympic Gold for Team USA
American swimmer Kate Douglass has won the first Olympic gold medal of her career in the women's 200-meter individual medley at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Douglass's victory is a major upset, as she was not considered a favorite to win the gold medal. However, she put together a strong performance in the final, finishing in a time of 2:08.93. This was the fourth gold medal for Team USA in the pool, well short of expectations.
Douglass's victory is a much-needed boost for Team USA, which has struggled in the pool at the Tokyo Olympics. The 22-year-old's gold medal is the first for Team USA in the pool since Michael Phelps won the 200-meter individual medley in 2012.
